A former Roman Catholic archbishop in Argentina been sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually abusing a young seminarian while still in office.
Edgardo Storni, 73, was in charge of the archdiocese of Santa Fe when he abused the male student in 1992.
He will serve his sentence under house arrest because of his age, however his lawyers say he will appeal.
As a proud and practising Catholic it is so sad and unfortunate to hear cases such as this, whether it be in Ireland, Argentina or indeed anywhere.
What is good to see is some form of justice finally being dealt out to those who betrayed the trust of so many young people. Hopefully this event in Argentina will start the ball rolling and we can start to see action taken in Ireland and anywhere else against these evil people. Counselling foremost is needed to establish why so many of our clergy have been involved in the acts, although still a tiny minority.
Please let this be an example to all and the first step on the road to justice and closure for so many affected.
