PFLP Politburo Member In London
Comrade Dr. Maryam Abu Daqqa, member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, addressed a rally in London on the anniversary of the occupation aggression against Gaza, saying that the British government is responsible for the crimes against Palestine, because the Balfour Declaration and British colonialism provided the major reason and impetus for the establishment of the occupation.
Speaking at the rally, which took place at the Israeli embassy in London on December 27, 2009, Comrade Abu Daqqa called upon Arabs and Palestinians in Britain to do their part to support their brothers and sisters in Gaza, and urged the friends of the Palestinian people around the world to continue their efforts of solidarity.
The rally was organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign - UK, the Stop the War Coalition, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and the British Muslim Initiative, and was supported by dozens of trade unions, student organizations, women's group, leftist and progressive political parties, and solidarity organizations with the Palestinian cause.
The protesters carried Palestinian flags and signs denouncing the massacres in Gaza and demanding an end to the siege. The president of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Betty Hunter, called upon the British government to take action to force Israel to comply with international law, and to prosecute Israeli war criminals.
Ahmad Turk, a member of the Palestinian Forum in Britain, spoke, calling upon the Egyptian government to open the border between Gaza and Egypt and not build a steel wall with its neighbors trapped in Gaza.
The demonstrations in London came one year after the aggression on Gaza; during the aggression, tens of thousands took to the streets in London in solidarity with the Palestinian people
